History

American Abatement is celebrating its 25th year serving Arizona. American Abatement is a member of the environmental clean-up industry. We have provided consistent, affordable results for 25 years, the results that general contractors, building owners, demolition contractors, homeowners, insurance companies, and real-estate companies have come to depend on.

American Abatement is an Arizona Corporation formed in 1998. We are licensed by the Arizona Registrar of Contractors ROC #133952 with a CR-5 classification. Our license permits us to provide:

Mission Statement

American Abatement provides a place of community for all employees, that gives purpose, order, and meaning to their efforts. A place where will and discipline are prized for what they are: “The backbone of enterprise and action, of being what you are intentionally instead of accidentally.”

A place where words such as integrity, intention, commitment, vision, and excellence can be used as action steps in the process of producing a worthwhile result.

We provide competitively priced services that are always on time and on budget. Customers will be treated with respect. They will recognize us because of our distinctly different way of providing services.

American Abatement’s employees have been extensively trained and use very specific work methods and means that will deliver consistent results each and every time. Employees emphasize service, friendliness, and above all customer satisfaction.

American Abatement’s is a Veteran Owned Small Business (VOSB). The owner David Smith served in the United States Air Force for 5 years.

Insurance and Bonding Information

American Abatement has a policy that is designed specifically for environmental contractors and consultants which combines Commercial General Liability, Contractors Pollution Liability (including transportation pollution liability) and Professional Liability coverage into one policy with limits of $2,000,000 each occurrence and a $2,000,000 aggregate limit. The insurance carrier has an A (excellent) rating from AM Best Company. Contractors Pollution Liability is a broad form pollution policy covering all pollutants unless specifically excluded. Asbestos, lead & mold are all covered under the Contractors Pollution Liability.

American Abatement also maintains Workers Compensation and Employers Liability & Excess Liability coverage with $1,000,000 limits. The insurance carrier has an A (excellent) rating from AM Best Company. 2022 experience modification rating for American Abatement is .88, which is the lowest possible rating as there were no losses.

The Team

David Smith – President
David has been in the environmental clean-up industry for 32 years. Has been involved in many multi-million dollar projects, ranging from mining to hospitals, and every type of client between. He has seen every aspect of the environmental business, he has worked hands-on in the field. He understands the work from the warehouse to the close-out documents. In addition, his bachelor’s degree in accounting at Arizona State and background in the CPA Big 8 accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche has given him extraordinary insight in heading American Abatement.

David has specialized in building companies. He has been critically involved in no less than 5 start-up companies. Involved from the inception even to going public. One of the most notable is Arizona-based Mobile Mini Storage Systems, now traded on NASDAQ (mini).

Omar Romandia – VP of Operations

Omar has been a valuable asset since our first day in business. With over 30 years of experience in the environmental industry, he has seen every type of project imaginable. Omar has successfully completed thousands of projects as a superintendent, ranging from $760 to over $1 million in size. He has supervised work for hospitals, schools, churches, government facilities, homes, apartments, large industrial, and many other clients and industries. Omar speaks fluent Spanish and helps communicate with our Hispanic community.

 

Scott Dey – Director of Marketing

Scott has been involved in developing corporate relationships since our first day in 1998. He has over 30 years of experience in marketing and business development strategies. His expertise is in developing and maintaining large corporate clients.

 

Landis Smith – Project Manager/Estimator

With 5 years of experience, Landis has project managed hundreds of asbestos removal and mold removal projects involving commercial and industrial to residential. Our project management philosophy is simple but effective “You bid it – you manage it”. This is the best way to be certain the project flows successfully from the estimate to the satisfaction of the customer. Landis speaks fluent Chinese and can bridge the language gap with our Chinese-speaking customers.

 

Nikki Smith – Administrative

A very important aspect of asbestos removal is the documentation. We are required by OSHA to maintain records concerning workers and the projects for 30 years. Nikki prepares close-out documentation and other office administrative tasks. Nikki is fluent in Vietnamese and brings us together with our Asian neighbors.

 

Anona Rogers – Accountant

Anona maintains our accounting system and records.
